Stone Soup

With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, throughout the last week we thought about being thankful, about sharing and about giving. Before the long weekend, we read Stone Soup together, a story about sharing.

Of course, we also had to make soup together. The verdict was not unanimous, but most students thought stone soup was delicious!

The Letter H

We’ve been reviewing all of the letters and their sounds. Today we focused on the /h/ sound. Just look at all the marvelous things we brought that start with this sound. How many different h words can you see? I see happy kids!

Guess Our Number!

Our class has been playing Guess Our Number with Mr. Greg’s class in Vietnam via Twitter. Every day, we have been asking questions that can be answered with a yes or no answer to try to narrow down what the other class’s number is.

Today they guessed our number and we think we know what their number is too!

Robots!

This week we we’ve been learning about programming and robots. We tried writing programming instructions for each other and then played a programming game called Kodable.

Today, we got to try programming a real robot.

New Year, New Students, New Learning

We’ve just finished our whirlwind first four days of school. So much excitement getting to know our new friends and learning routines. The first weeks of school are always exhausting ones for the students (and their teacher!) as they adjust to full days of school. My new students were up to the challenge, though. Just look at the eager learners below.

Lego Challenges

This past week we participated in four Lego Challenges.

The first challenge was for students to make their name with Lego. There were lots of ways the students chose to do this. You can see all of their tweeted names here.

The second challenge was to create the largest Lego boat possible that would float and not tip over. Testing the boats was the BEST part of this challenge. Again, there are pictures and tweets from all of the students about their creation here.

The next day, Lego Challenge 3 was to design part of the ideal playground. Look closely and you’ll see a urinal. What would a playground be without it?
