We often create on our iPads, but this week the students are using technology for research to help them create on paper.

…And We’re Back!
Wow! Where did that first week of school go? The students were busy getting to know their new classmates and the new routines in our classroom. Here are some highlights.
Meeting our new iPads…
Building our reading stamina…
Learning to read a book all by ourselves…
And watching Mr. Silversides turn into Sid the Clown…
We’re looking forward to many more great weeks together.
Showing Our Learning
The students are becoming more and more independent and proficient at choosing a tool and showing their learning with their iPads. As you can see by the picture below, they think it is important to get just the right angle when taking a picture of a non-digital artifact! Check out the learning on their blogs about digraphs that they were taking pictures of.
Making Riddles
Today, after reading and discussing lots of riddles, the students each made up their own riddles and posted them on Twitter. I have captured a few of them below, but you can read all of the tweets in this Storify.
Making Choices for Practicing Words
Making Our Mark
Today we followed the example of Vashti in Peter Reynolds’ book The Dot and made our marks. We made our dots on paper
and on our iPads.
Our First Day
Our first day of school was a busy one, but since the grade one students had been looking longingly at the iPads since they arrived in the classroom, we did take some time to get acquainted with these new tools. The grade two students were excellent teachers, passing on their knowledge to the younger students.
We’re looking forward to seeing how these captivating devices can help us to learn.
