The themes of Remembrance Day and the promises made to the First Nations people were woven together to create this bulletin board.

Preparing for Remembrance Day
The Purple Pirate
There was a purple pirate at our school this week! He did a play for us all by himself that showed us how important it was to be compassionate. Afterwards, he made some silly faces with us.
Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox is a national hero in Canada. Every year, Canadians run to raise money for cancer research to finish the run that Terry was unable to complete. This year, each of the students chose who they would like to run for. Some ran for people they knew who had cancer. Others ran for people they didn’t know or who had not even been born yet such as their children or grandchildren. This picture shows all of the runners with their running stickers on.
Because the day was rainy, we ran in the gym instead of at Guthridge Field as we had planned.
Learning to Jig
Ms. Kempel, our school division’s First Nations consultant, has been teaching us about the Metis culture and some Metis jigging steps. We first learned the resting step, and then some fancy steps called bunny hop, marching step, front cross, ankles up and chigallop (pronounced chee-ga-lo). See if you can tell which ones we are doing in the video below!
…And We’re Back!
Wow! Where did that first week of school go? The students were busy getting to know their new classmates and the new routines in our classroom. Here are some highlights.
Meeting our new iPads…
Building our reading stamina…
Learning to read a book all by ourselves…
And watching Mr. Silversides turn into Sid the Clown…
We’re looking forward to many more great weeks together.

Reading to the Kindergarten Kids
All of the students remember being read to by the “big kids” when they were in kindergarten and look forward to their turn to be the readers. Today was the day!
