Last week, vai Skype, my students met a university student who wants to be part of the learning in our classroom. This morning, many of the students read to her via Skype.

I’ve Lost My Cat
Since 2000, the TD bank has given a free book each year to every grade one student in Canada. Because of a mix-up in the number of books my class needed, it was nearing Christmas by the time our books all arrived. With all of the busyness and special things that were already going on in our classroom last month, I saved the books for a special day like January 18th!
This year, the free book is called I’ve Lost My Cat. The students loved the repetition the book contained and after hearing and reading the story themselves in several different ways, they went home ready to try to read it to their parents.
Thank you TD Canada Trust!

Reading by Ourselves
As part of our reading program, we’ve been building our stamina in reading to ourselves. We know that to be good readers we have to spend a lot of time reading and we are reading to ourselves a few more minutes each day.
Just look at these children concentrate!
