Our class has been trying to extend the time they can “read” books by themselves without interruption. We call this building stamina. Ask your child how many minutes they can now do. Just look at these diligent readers.
We’re Back!!
I have a brand new class of grade one students and we have been busy learning about each other and about our classroom. Take a peek at some of what we have been up to.
Trying out the new Lego wall…
Sorting…
Reading that Minecraft book…
Snacking…
And learning new math games.
This is going to be a great year!
Year End Reflections
On the last day of school, the students took time to think about what they had learned and their goals for the future. I may be biased, but I think they are beyond cute.
Enjoy!
Racing Sphero “Cars”
On the last day of school, each student used a paper cup to make his or her own “car”.
The cars were of lots of different makes and models. Some even included windshields.
Then the real fun began! The students used our Sphero robot to power the cars and raced the cars down a track they had created. Some cars couldn’t quite keep up with the speedy Sphero, but no one cared. As you can hear below, it was a lot of FUN.
We Are Readers!
This past year, the students recorded their reading in November, February and June using an app called Book Creator. The results of this are on their blogs, showing their developing reading prowess through the school year. One example is below. Check the others out on the students’ blogs and leave them a comment to tell them how clever they are.

More Reading
We’re still showing off our reading skills!
Our Butterflies are Free
After watching our tiny caterpillars eat and grow and eat and grow, they finally each made their own chrysalis. Then we waited impatiently. This last week, much to the students delight, they emerged. When we released them, some of the butterflies cooperated and perched on students’ hands before flying away!
Baby Magpies Visit
This week we had two more very special visitors in our classroom. These magpies, like the hawk we saw a few weeks ago, are in rehabilitation with Wild and Cared Free Wildlife Rehabilitation. The children are so fortunate to be able to get up so close to animals they would not normally have a chance to see.
