Flashlight Friday
Some Fridays, we read by flashlight instead of the overhead lights! It’s amazing how this engages the students.
We Were Wondering…
Have you ever wondered how many marshmallow shapes there are in a box of Lucky Charms? We did. So we counted and sorted them to find out.
The grade twos helped out with some very tricky double digit addition and we discovered that there were 457 marshmallow shapes in our box, but we speculated that not all boxes would have the same number.
Later, we painted shamrocks, but the best part was when we FINALLY found where that tricky leprechaun had been hiding his gold.
Pie in the Face
Our school has been collecting money in support of Telemiracle, an annual telethon for the benefit of the Kinsmen Foundation. As the students brought in money, they got to put it into the container of the person they would like to see get a pie in the face.
Much to the delight of all the students, there were two “winners”, Mr. Orescanin and Mr. Paice.
The Winter Carnival
The Winter Carnival was a special activity that involved all of the children in the school grouped into multi grade teams. The teams moved through eight stations with enticing activities at each stop. Since Mrs Cassidy was in charge of the “Decorate a Cupcake to Look like a Snowman” station, that is the only station that we have pictures for, but the students assured me that they enjoyed all of the stations. Clearly the cupcakes were engrossing!
Yummy!
We have had a pre-service teacher visiting our classroom this fall. Wednesday was her last day and she brought treats with her! Thanks, Ms. Lewis!
Later, we visited the cultural fair put on by the grade 8’s and had more delicious things to snack on.
Halloween
Here are some of the Halloween moments from our classroom.
The day before, we talked to Ms. Lirenman’s class on Skype. Each student in both classes acted out their Halloween costume to see if the other class could guess who they were. Some of the costumes were tricky!

And best of all we had snacks.
A Fire Truck Up Close
There was no fire, but a fire truck came to Westmount School and the students all had a look. Mrs. Cassidy was away when the truck came, so some of the students took their iPads outside to take photos. These images are posted with the permission of the photographers.

A Surprise
Today we found a surprise on our door. Someone had written encouraging notes to everyone in the class. We don’t know who they were from, but we want to say, “thank you!”
