Some Fridays, we read by flashlight instead of the overhead lights! It’s amazing how this engages the students.

Still More Reading
Reading to the Kindergarten Kids
Every spring, my students read to the kindergarten children to show off their newly acquired reading skills. This is a highly anticipated event as they all remember being read to when THEY were in kindergarten.
The students justifiably felt very proud of what they have accomplished in reading this year!
Reading by Flashlight
This week, Moose Jaw is Reading Town Canada! Classes all over Moose Jaw are dropping everything and reading. Other special activities are happening around the city as well.
In our classroom, we already read every day, but to make this week special, we are reading by flashlight on a couple of occasions and beginning next week, we will have a regular “Flashlight Friday” reading time. This is what it looked like earlier this week.
The Warriors Visit
Reading to the Kindergarten Kids
All of the students remember being read to by the “big kids” when they were in kindergarten and look forward to their turn to be the readers. Today was the day!
Reader’s Theatre: The Videos
After lots of practice in our classroom, in other classrooms in our school and with other classes in Florida and Pennsylvania, we at last did our reader’s theatre for a video camera. Despite interruptions like ringing phones and announcements over the intercom, the students performed like troopers!
They are (and should be) very pleased with themselves for the way they did their parts.
Reading With a Buddy
Reading to and with a friend is one of the most popular things we do in our classroom!
